Formed in 2002, the Punjabi Cultural & Sports Club (WA) Inc. is a not-for-profit sporting club based in Perth, Western Australia. The club was established to promote physical activity for all genders and age groups within the Sikh community through the organisation of sporting and cultural events.
Since establishment, our club has seen significant membership growth which currently stands at 50 registered players and over 250 members. Committed to maintaining our rich heritage, the club proudly provides opportunities for the wider community to celebrate PCSC’s unique cultural identity as Sikhs and as Australians.
PCSC has organised a range of events including Vaisakhi games, dinner dance’s, Lohri, Teeyan and other social functions as well as cultural activities. The club strongly encourages our children to cultivate and preserve our cultural heritage by learning Punjabi, Bhangra, Gidha and participating in sports.
Over the past decade, PCSC has strongly encouraged and supported the involvement of youth in an organizational capacity. This active approach has successfully transitioned as youthful members of the community presently stand as members of the PCSC committee.
Our club takes great pride in providing community youth, including young females, with an opportunity to participate openly in sporting events without bias. We encourage teams to partake in local and state competitions as well as international tournaments.
PCSC supports a range of individual and team sports including but not limited to: soccer, netball, cricket, basketball, volleyball, badminton and athletics. At present, our two netball teams and men’s soccer team are preparing to participate in the 29th Australian Sikh Games which will be held in Brisbane over the Easter weekend.
Our club strongly believes that by encouraging participation and promoting a sporting culture within our community, this will provide an appropriate platform for the younger generation to better develop the necessary skills to successfully and seamlessly integrate with the wider community.
The Club is a stalwart supporter of the Sikh Association of Western Australia (SAWA) and plays a vital role in assisting the broadcast of the Punjabi Radio Programme (Sikh Sangeet), every Thursday. In conjunction with SAWA, PCSC has been the lead sporting club who has successfully coordinated and managed the Australian Sikh Games when they have been hosted in Perth, most recently being 2014.
Furthermore, we would like to express our gratitude to our past and present committee and club members for their hard work, involvement and contribution in creating this platform to advantage our youth and community. We sincerely express our thanks for their ongoing service, support, and guidance.
